Micro Swiss
Micro Swiss Direct Drive Extruder for Ender 5 Printers (Extruder Only)
What the Micro Swiss Direct Drive Extruder does
The Micro Swiss Direct Drive Extruder is a drop-in extruder system for Ender 5 printers that converts the filament feed path to a shorter, more constrained direct drive setup. The design is made for plug-and-play installation without printer modification.
This extruder-only kit is built to improve extrusion control, simplify filament loading, and support flexible filament printing with high speed and accuracy.
Key features of the Ender 5 direct drive extruder
- Drop-in installation: no modification required for the Ender 5 platform.
- No printed brackets or sandwiches: the system is designed to install without additional printed adapter parts.
- Dual-drive train: helps maintain consistent filament feeding.
- Hardened tool steel gears: built with CNC precision cut gears for durable filament drive.
- Adjustable filament grip: lets users tune clamping force for different materials.
- Easy filament loading: simplifies material changes and setup.
- Short, highly constrained filament path: improves control from the drive gears to the hotend.
- Flexible filament support: designed to print flexible filaments with high speed and accuracy.
- Outstanding extrusion control: suited to prints that benefit from more precise material handling.
- Lightweight aluminum body: keeps the extruder assembly strong while reducing added weight.
What is included in the extruder-only kit
The package includes the hardware and extruder components needed for the Micro Swiss direct drive assembly: 1 main extruder body, 1 extruder lever, 1 spring pin, 1 spring, 2 gears, 1 knob, 1 shoulder pin, 2 M5 20mm nylon patch bolts, 1 M5 30 bolts, 1 M5 nylon lock nut, 1 M5 washer, 1 extension cable, 3 M3 motor mounting screws, 2 M3 bolts, 2 M3 nuts, 5 zip ties, 1 printed bracket, and 1 beveled Capricorn liner.
Stepper motor and roller wheels are not included.
Use cases for direct drive on Ender 5 printers
This direct drive setup is suited to makers who want a shorter filament path for better handling of soft and flexible materials. The constrained path and dual-drive gear system also make it useful for users looking for more controlled extrusion behaviour on an Ender 5 series machine.
The lightweight aluminum construction makes the extruder appropriate for everyday printing where a more compact direct drive arrangement is preferred over remote filament feeding.
Installation note before ordering
Recent Creality machines may use an updated extruder stepper motor. Before ordering the kit, check the extruder motor on the printer; if the motor gear is pressed in, a new stepper motor is required to complete the installation.
Slicer retraction settings after installing direct drive
After installing the Micro Swiss Direct Drive Extruder, retraction distance in the slicer should be changed. For Ender 5 series printers, the stated setting is 1.5-2mm at 50mm/s.
Retraction distance should not exceed 3.0mm. If retraction is still set to 5.0-6.5mm, hot filament can be pulled up into the heat break, where it may harden after reaching the cold side and cause a jam.
