What is HIPS filament used for?

HIPS filament is commonly used for dissolvable support structures in ABS printing, as well as lightweight prototypes, cosplay props, enclosures, and functional parts.

Can HIPS filament dissolve in limonene?

Yes, HIPS is soluble in limonene, which makes it a popular dissolvable support material for dual extrusion ABS printing workflows.

Is HIPS filament easy to sand and paint?

Yes, HIPS is known for excellent post-processing characteristics including sanding, cutting, machining, and painting.

What printers are compatible with HIPS filament?

This 1.75mm HIPS filament is compatible with many FDM printers including Bambu Lab, Prusa, Creality, Raise3D, QIDI Tech, and other systems capable of printing higher-temperature materials.

Does HIPS require a heated bed?

Yes, a heated bed is generally recommended to improve adhesion and reduce the risk of warping during printing.

What makes HIPS useful for support material?

HIPS can be dissolved in limonene, allowing users to remove supports from complex ABS prints without damaging delicate features.

Is HIPS stronger than PLA?

HIPS offers better impact resistance and machinability than PLA, although material selection depends on the specific application and printing requirements.

Can HIPS be used as a standalone printing material?

Yes, HIPS performs well as a standalone filament for prototypes, display models, lightweight functional parts, and post-processed projects.
